Astrology of power and the US election
Join the workshop this Friday to learn how to work with the intensity!
The last bit of October and early November offer some of the most tense and explosive alignments of 2024, just in time for the US election.
The opposition of Mars and Pluto, in particular, brings power games and out-of-control passion to the fore, both on the world stage and in our lives. The two planets have been in relationship in the past three elections, but the closeness of this opposition brings the greatest tension. Mars exerts the energy of the archetypal warrior and pioneer. It acts with passion, and is challenging Pluto’s slower - but more intense - stripping away of facades and veneers of falseness.
Oppositions are often characterized by projection, in this case of shadows and aggression, onto another person or party.
What we are seeing is the projection of shadows onto the other side in a big way. Each candidate is asserting, vociferously, that if the other party wins the US will quickly descend into tyranny. Trump and his team tell us that Harris’ election means the end of free speech, escalation of war, and the general end to democracy.
Harris and the Democratic party claim the re-election of President Trump means the end of freedom of the press, the deterioration of personal rights, and the general end to democracy.
Long time Democrats have aligned themselves with Trump; long time Republicans have endorsed Harris. Each side seems convinced that the other represents some variation of the end of America as we know it.
In some ways, both are correct. The US is in the final hours of its 250-ish year Pluto return, the return of the planet Pluto to the degree of the Zodiac where it was at the country’s birth. This 250 year cycle of empires was delineated thoroughly in a short book by historian Sir John Glubb1, using examples from all over the world. Glubb, of course, didn’t use astrology to make his case, but his work well describes the Pluto cycle at work.
The end of the empire does not mean the end of the country, of course, just as a personal Pluto transit to a point in your chart does not mean the end of you. But there will be a death and rebirth of some kind and we are in the middle of the process, an uncomfortable place to be (just like a personal Pluto transit!!).
This Friday, October 25th, I’m hosting a workshop on the astrology of the moment and how to work with it.
I’ll be sharing insights on the Mars-Pluto opposition and the Scorpio New Moon (of November 1st) in context of this time of big change. Plus, we’ll take a deep dive into the definition of power, where it comes from, and how to wield it free from the cultural distortions of power as control.
It’s particularly useful to remember how not to be a tyrant at this time in the world, even as you remember how powerful you are, and that what you believe, think, say and do matter.
In the workshop, we’ll look at the election chart, as well as the charts of the two candidates to see how they illustrate the planetary relationships. Plus, we’ll look at the charts of class volunteers who attend live, and I’ll offer some energy work to help you own your personal, non-tyrant power and release the fear we are being bombarded with.
The live workshop is this Friday, October 25th from 10-11:30 am Mountain/ noon-1:30 pm Eastern. All paid subscribers are invited to attend live, and all will receive the recording. The Zoom link will be posted and e-mailed on Thursday. I’d love to see you!
This is the first in a series of monthly workshops for paid subscribers on co-creating your life in alignment with the cosmos. Each month, we’ll explore how to work consciously with the cosmic energies to co-create our more beautiful lives - and world!
How is it going for you??
“The Fate of Empires and the Search for Survival”, by Sir John Glubb outlines several phases in the cycle of an empire: pioneering enterprise; commerce and expansion; affluence; intellectualism; and decadence. The reader may not love the colonialist attitude, but the research into historical cycles is useful and timely.
