Highly sensitive does not mean fragile
Plus, come build your intuition in tomorrow's live workshop
A powerful and disruptive New Moon in Aquarius
Yesterday’s (Wednesday, January 29 at 5:35 am Mountain) New Moon in Aquarius is the first in nearly 250 years with Pluto (power and hidden corruption) in this sign of societal patterns, enlightenment and advancement of ideas. The news is full of various big announcements about artificial intelligence, free speech and freedom of the press; our fundamental ideas of how society operates are being debated and disrupted around the world.
We are also getting a heavy dose of nervous, excitable Uranian energy as that planet also stations direct. Plus, with Jupiter moving forward again next week, you may find yourself (more) overwhelmed with new information and ideas, and perhaps a whole new way of seeing something important to you.
The Pisces line-up puts dreams, imagination, and unconditional love at the fore
At the same time, the over-abundance of dreamy, sensitive Pisces energy makes it difficult to tell what is real, what is fake, and what is wishful thinking. The planetary combination in Pisces (Saturn, Venus, Neptune and the North Node) might also intensify longing for an ideal and disillusion over what appears to be reality.
In your own life, there might be a sense of nearly unbearable uncertainty over which way to go, what’s going to happen, and how much power you have in all of it - and at the same time, an intense restlessness to decide on a course for the future.
Hold those thoughts for just a bit longer. Mars is slightly more than halfway through its retrograde, and Venus already within its retrograde prelude. The first few months of 2025 support us to continue the internal journey of re-evaluating, digesting and integrating the events of the past years - and preparing for the shifts to come.
Sensitivity is a human super-power
The Piscean gifts of sensitivity, compassion and imagination become more pronounced as Venus (love, relationship, values) builds towards its meet-up with Neptune (dissolution, dreams, contact with the mystery) this Saturday, February 1st.
As I talk with clients and friends about the heightened sensitivity we are experiencing, I find myself somewhat frustrated with the limitations of our language. Sensitivity has often become conflated with fragile. But real sensitivity - the ability to deeply tune in to your subtle awareness of yourself and the world around you - is a powerful human ability. Real, embodied, sensitivity builds resilience and strength. Real sensitivity can support you to be less fragile, and more adaptable.
One of the keys to enhancing your sensitivity is trusting yourself. Self-trust requires having true compassion for yourself, and valuing your experience and your knowing. The greatest block to knowing what is true and then choosing how to respond is dismissing what you sense (“that’s not real; that can’t be true.…”).
Other blocks include ‘shoulding’ on yourself, including my favorite (and highly destructive) version: if you were just more enlightened, you would be able to handle whatever it is you dislike or fear or don’t want. I’ve stayed in more than one relationship much longer than it was healthy with just that kind of thinking.
Most of us have been told what is possible for so long that when our experience veers beyond the boundaries of that version of reality, we dismiss it. Whether it was being told there couldn’t possibly be monsters under your bed or in your closet; there’s no such thing as time travel or alien abduction or angels or demons; your imagination and dreams aren’t real; you have likely learned to limit your experience based on what you have been told it could be.
Today we are all learning that what we have been told is true might not be, and what we have been told couldn’t possibly be real, is indeed true. If nothing else, our understanding of what is possible is expanding in the collective (Aquarius), and the astrological shifts of the year tell us this is just the beginning.
Build your intuition in tomorrow’s workshop
This is a critical time to build your sensitivity, i.e. your capacity to sense at more and more subtle levels. Rooting more deeply into your felt experience is the path to building that awareness. There are some simple practices to play with as well. Astrology is one, when you tune in, for example, to what you feel as the Moon shifts from one sign to another every couple of days.
Another great practice is the use of oracle cards or divinatory tools such as the I Ching. And one of my favorites is the simple use of a pendulum.
In tomorrow’s (Friday) workshop (for paid subscribers), we’ll take a closer look at the powerful alignments in Pisces of the next couple of months, and discuss how to cooperate with them. We will also play with some intuition- and sensitivity-building practices, plus talk about increasing our psychic immunity to energies we don’t want.
The workshop will begin live at 10 am Mountain/Noon Eastern, and the recording will be available shortly after we conclude to all paid subscribers. Free subscribers will have access to the first 20 minutes of the recording when it is posted.
How is it going for you? I’d love to know.
